Strahan Village

Project Overview
Falcon Building Group was engaged by NRMA to complete a significant refurbishment of the Strahan Village hotel and restaurant, located on Tasmania’s remote West Coast. The project formed a part of NRMA’s broader commitment to enhancing regional accommodation offerings across the state.
The scope focused on improving guest comfort, restaurant functionality and the overall quality of experience – while maintaining live operations throughout construction.
Timelines & Expectations
Given Strahan Village’s position as a major tourism hub, strict timelines were essential to minimise disruption to both guests and operations. Falcon Building Group coordinated works to ensure key facilities remained operational, delivering the project efficiently and in alignment with NRMA’s seasonal requirements. The entire project was completed during the ‘off season’ of July to September 2023.
Scope of Work
The client required a high-quality refurbishment that would elevate both the guest rooms and shared spaces, while retaining the venue’s character and connection to the Strahan waterfront.
The scope of works included:
- Full demolition and refurbishment of 35 ensuite hotel rooms
- Restaurant upgrades including flooring, seating zones and acoustic finishes
- Refresh of public spaces and circulation areas
- Scheduling around live guests and operating hours
- Coordination of multiple trades in a regional location
Challenges & Key Outcomes
Given the hotel remained operational, Falcon implemented a staged construction program designed to minimise disruption to staff and guests. The project demanded precise planning, remote logistics coordination, and consistent communication with the NRMA team.
“Despite the complex task of orchestrating numerous trades in a remote location, the project was executed safely, punctually, and to exacting standards.”
– Darren, NRMA Resorts
Who Was Involved in the Project
This project was managed by James Trimmer, supported by a skilled team of trades and suppliers, many of whom have extensive experience working in remote regional areas. The team worked closely with NRMA to stage works effectively and deliver the project to the highest standard.
Sharing their thoughts on the project, James noted:
“I had the opportunity to lead the full renovation of a 35-room accommodation facility at Strahan Village on Tasmania’s rugged west coast. This was a fast-paced and highly rewarding project, carried out under a tight schedule to ensure the client could return the property to full operation and revenue generation as quickly as possible. One of the key challenges was the remote location, which required careful logistical planning to ensure materials and trades were on-site at the right times. Coordinating multiple subcontractors working in a wave effect through the building meant detailed scheduling and real-time problem-solving were essential to keeping things moving smoothly.
Through strong communication, precise planning, and close collaboration with the client and all on-site teams, we delivered the project on time and on budget. The client was extremely pleased with the outcome, both in terms of the finished product and how the project was run.
This project is a great example of Falcon Building’s ability to deliver high-quality work in remote locations under tight timelines, without compromising on standards or client satisfaction.”
Project Impact
This project highlights Falcon’s expertise in live environment refurbishments and regional project delivery. Despite access limitations and tight timelines, we delivered a seamless result, combining functionality, durability and design consistency.
